Promising partnership for BayWa r.e.

to overview

BayWa r.e. has extensive experience in both the development and construction of wind farms in Italy. It’s specialist O&M business, known as BayWa r.e. Energy Services Systems (ESS), has built upon this specialist knowledge and is now providing construction services for its clients.

BayWa r.e. ESS has recently completed the Balance of Plant (BOP) construction for a 19.8 MW site. The first construction project for a third party client in Italy, they have installed all the necessary infrastructure to operate six Vestas wind turbines in the coastal town of Piombino.

BayWa r.e. ESS will now continue to provide operation and maintenance services for the site on behalf of Austrian independent power provider, W.E.B.

Francesco Paolo Liuzzi, Managing Director of BayWa r.e. Italy’s Energy Services Systems, commented: “We used our global expertise and latest technology to complete the construction at Piombino in just seven months. As a relatively new part of the business, we are proud to have a project of this scale delivered and completed to such a high standard, and in such a short time. It has been producing power since June, and we will continue to oversee the smooth running of the plant.”

“We look forward to growing our relationship with W.E.B. Like BayWa r.e., they are taking a leading role in the energy transition, with more than 250 renewable plants all over the world. I’m sure this is just the start of our successful partnership.”

As part of the installation BayWa r.e. ESS pioneered a technique to install the piles for the foundations of the turbines without excavating. The ‘Pali Franki’ method involves using a free-fall deadweight ram to drive the piles into the ground, compacting the earth rather than displacing it altogether.

Mr. Andrea Tisot of W.E.B., says: “Our power plants have a capacity of 481 MW and are producing eco-friendly electricity across five countries. We will continue our expansion based on the worldwide energy transition trend and we hope that this successful project will be a springboard for future collaborations with BayWa r.e. in Italy and further afield.”

BayWa r.e. acquired Italian firm ESS in December 2017 to become the largest renewable energy services provider in Italy. With the country’s commitment to the Agenda 2030 sustainable development goals, the market for renewable energy plants is expected to grow, and BayWa r.e. aims to be the first port of call for organisations who want to improve their green credentials.
